THE observance of this year’s Holy Week was generally peaceful in Eastern Visayas, the top police official in the region said.
“Police Regional Office 8 has put extra efforts into making the whole of Eastern Visayas safe and secured while observing the Holy Week. This success is a combined effort of the Philippine National Police, other law enforcement agencies, and civilian support groups,” said Brigadier General Rommel Francisco Marbil, police regional director.
According to Marbil, no major incidents occurred during the Lenten Season for the Catholic community from April 2 to 9, 2023.
“Police Regional Office 8 maximized its personnel by deploying them to different places of convergence, churches, other places of worship, and recreational and tourist spots,” Marbil added.
The police provincial offices also launched their “Bisekleta Iglesia” as part of the “intensified security coverage” during the Holy Week.
Marbil earlier announced the deployment of some 5,000 police personnel across the region to ensure the public's safety during the Holy Week and summer holidays until May 31 this year. (SunStar Philippines)
