San Carlos City develops juvenile intervention program

THE officials of the 18 barangays in San Carlos City participated in a workshop aimed at creating a 3-year Comprehensive Barangay Juvenile Intervention Program (CBJIMP) at the Brgy. II Function Hall, last April 12.

The workshop, facilitated by the City Social Welfare & Development Office (CSWDO), educated the barangay officials, especially the punong barangays and secretaries, on the intervention programs, activities, and services that must be provided for children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children at risk (CAR) based on the CBJIMP.

The program will divert children who have committed offenses from court proceedings and instead offer a diversion program to serve the sentence.

The Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) requires the data applicable in CBJIMP and will be consolidated into the Comprehensive Local Juvenile Intervention Program (CLJIMP).

The workshop resource person, Narciso Abad III, CAR/CICL Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) Focal Person, discussed the background and overview of Republic Act 9334 amended by RA 10630 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (JJWA); government vision for children; project development cycle; result-based management; and situation analysis.

The participants also completed worksheet and situation write-ups and performed group reporting on the status of data gathering. Atty. Pierra F. Lamayo, LGOO VI of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, representatives of the Philippine National Police, Women and Children's Protection Desk, and San Carlos City Council for Youth Affairs were also present during the workshop facilitated by CSWDO.* (PR)
