Amparo, Gentallan co-headlines Kumong Bol-anon X

PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions will stage another blockbuster boxing show in Bohol.

Kumong Bol-anon X will be headlined by two title fights featuring two of PMI Bohol Boxing’s most promising prospects Jake Amparo and Shane Gentallan on May 6 at the Guindulman Gymnasium.

The 25-year-old Amparo is in for a tough fight against former World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Intercontinental minimumweight champion Clyde Azarcon for the Philippine minimumweight belt.

Amparo is coming off a unanimous decision win over Charlie Malupangue last Feb. 25, 2023 in Calape, Bohol.

Azarcon, who trains out of the Big Yellow Boxing Gym in Cebu City, is currently in a slump and is eager to bounce back. He lost his last three contests against John Paul Gabunilas, Lito Dante and Yuga Ozaki, all by knockout.

Amparo is 12-4-1 with two knockouts, while the 28-year-old Azarcon is 16-6-1 with six knockouts.

In the meantime, Gentallan locks horns with Chinese Dian Xing Zhu for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council (ABC) Silver light flyweight strap.

The 25-year-old Gentallan is fresh from an impressive second-round knockout win over Faisol Akbar last Feb. 25 in Calape.

He’ll be facing one of his stiffest tests to date against a fellow young prospect in Zhu.

The 26-year-old Zhu won his last two fights since suffering his first career defeat in hands of Fan Yong Zhang. He stopped Yu Jie Zeng in the fourth round in 2020, and took a long layoff, before stopping Thai Narathip Sungsut in the first round to win the WBC ABC belt last March 27.

Gentallan is 7-0 with four knockouts, while Zhu is 7-1 with six knockouts. / EKA
