NegOcc, Bago softball teams capture Little League PH titles

TWO teams from Negros Occidental and another from Bago City bagged the championships in all three softball divisions of the 2023 Little League Philippines Series National Finals in Ilagan City, Isabela on Sunday, April 16, 2023.

In the Little League (Major) division (10 to 12 years old), Negros Occidental, composed of players from Education and Training Center School, defeated Tanauan City, 6-0, to win the title.

Negros Occidental, represented by players from Bacolod City National High School, defended its crown in the Senior League (13 to 16 years old) after defeating Bago City, 3-1.

Bago City, comprised of softbelles from Ramon Torres National High School, beat Negros Occidental, 2-1, to also retain its Junior League (12 to 14 years old) title.

In a statement before the National Finals, the Negros Occidental provincial government said softball is one of its priority sports under the

Abanse Negrense Grassroots Sports Development Programs of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

"The province has established year-round training programs at all levels to improve the skills of the Negrense athletes while monitoring the team’s progress in preparation for higher levels of competition such as the Little League World Series in the United States," it added.

Meanwhile, teams from Tanauan City, Batangas won the championships in all four baseball divisions, including the Little League, 50/70 Intermediate, Junior League and Senior League.

The winning team in every division will represent the Philippines in the Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in June. (PNA)
