Capitol pledges P4M to further improve tourism programs of Camotes’ 4 LGUs

(UPDATED) The Cebu Provincial Government has pledged P1 million for each of the four local government units (LGUs) that comprise Camotes Islands.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia made the announcement in Poro town on Sunday, April 16, 2023, the last day of the two-day Suroy-Suroy Sugbo Enchanting Camotes.

"You have exceeded our expectations...You have truly, truly defined the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo experience,” Garcia told the mayors of Poro, San Francisco, Tudela and Pilar.

According to the report of Sugbo News, the media platform of the Office of the Governor, the financial assistant will serve as a reward for the LGUs’ efforts to make the activity, the flagship tourism program of the Capitol, a success.

Garcia said the money should be spent on further improving the LGUs’ tourism programs and initiatives.

Meanwhile, Senator Robinhood Padilla said he was honored that the governor invited him to attend the second round of the Suroy-Suroy this year, which focused on the natural beauty of Camotes Islands’ four towns.

Padilla said he would like to bring Suroy-Suroy to his home province of Cordillera, adding that his office is willing to fund its realization.

He said the success of the program does not only require the participation of local chief executives but the determination and vision of the governor.

Among those who joined the weekend activity were Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco and her husband Deputy Speaker Duke Frasco and Fifth District Provincial Board Members Red Duterte and Mike Villamor.

Last January, the Capitol off kicked the Suroy-Suroy Northern Escapade, which covered 15 towns and cities in the north of Cebu Province. (PAC, PJB)
