A THREE-year-old girl is in critical condition for fractured legs after being beaten by her own father.
According to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Bunawan Police Station, the father who assaulted has been charged with the violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262 or Violence against Women and their Children (VAWC) and Republic Act (RA) 7610 or Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Major Catherine dela Rey said that on April 7, 2023, another suspect was arrested after beating his wife and children while waiting for a jeep at Km. 23, Barangay Bunawan, Davao City.
The incident of domestic violence was caught on video by a netizen who was just waiting for a ride to go home.
DCPO reported that while the suspect's wife and children were at their house, the suspect came and told them to leave.
“The complainant felt scared and left their house. While they were waiting for a jeepney along Km. 23, Bunawan, Davao City, the suspect suddenly arrived and punched the complainant and his children, hitting them on the arm and body,” Dela Rey said.
The official said that the suspect was immediately arrested by the Bunawan Police Station, where the victims were also rescued.
“The suspect was temporarily held at Bunawan Police Station for investigation and appropriate filing of the case,” the spokesperson said.
The VAWC case carries a prison term of one month and one day to 20 years and a fine of P100,000 to P300,000 in damages, and mandatory psychological counseling or psychiatric treatment while RA 7610, Article 6, section 10, a prison mayor in his minimum period penalty.
Meanwhile, the toddler is currently admitted in the hospital recovering from the fractured leg. JPC
