WHEN I travel, I always make sure to witness a beautiful sunset in one of my destinations. One of the places in the country that has a magical sunset is Camiguin.

Located in Northern Mindanao, this small island is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations because of its beautiful beaches and other attractions. One of the most popular spots is the Sunken Cemetery, where the most beautiful sunset can be seen.

The Sunken Cemetery got its name because it sank when Mt. Vulcan erupted in the 1870s. Unlike other tourist spots in Camiguin, the beach where the Sunken Cemetery is located has black sand, which shimmers when hit by the sun's rays.

To get to the Sunken Cemetery, you need to ride a boat to the big cross where you can take pictures. The Sunken Cemetery is also known as a diving spot where you can see the remains of the old cemetery under the big cross.

Near the Sunken Cemetery, you can also find the Old Church Ruins, which has an entrance fee of 10 pesos. Aside from the enchanted sunset setting in the Sunken Cemetery, there are other beautiful places to explore on this island.

Church Ruins

One of Camiguin's historical spots formerly known as Guiob Church was destroyed during the eruption of Mt. Vulcan in the 1870s. Now, the beautiful architectural style of the remains of the church will take you back to the island's history.

Katibawasan Falls

If you're tired of a whole day of island hopping, you can relax by taking a dip in the cool waters of Katibawasan Falls, the highest waterfall on the island, with a height of 250 feet.

White Island

Camiguin also boasts White Island, with a white sandbar that offers a view of Mt. Hibok-Hibok. The entrance fee is P50, while the boat rental fee for a maximum of 6 passengers going to White Island is P450.

Mantigue Island

Don't miss the chance to visit Mantigue Island, located on the eastern side of Camiguin. The entrance fee is P50, while the boat rental fee is P600 going to the island.

Please note that boat trips going to White Island and Mantigue Island may not be available during the northeast monsoon season because some boatmen do not accept trips due to high waves.

Ardent Hot Spring

If you're into hot springs, visit Ardent Hot Spring, which has cottages for rent and an entrance fee of P50. The temperature of the spring reaches up to 40 degrees Celsius and is said to come from Mt. Hibok-Hibok.

There are many budget-friendly resorts and pension houses in Camiguin.

Finally, a reminder to all travelers, "take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints."
