SOME 215 fire victims and another 1,000 indigent residents received financial assistance and grocery items in Calbayog City on Friday, April 21, 2023.

Senator Bong Go, together with the representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the National Housing Authority (NHA), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), led the relief operation in the city.

“Alam ko pong mahirap ang masunugan pero magtiwala lang po kayo sa gobyerno at tayo po ay makakaahon muli. Ang importante ay walang nasaktan,” the senator said.

More than 120 houses were reportedly razed in a fire on the early morning of April 18, which affected a neighborhood of informal settlers at Purok 3 of Barangay Carmen and adjacent houses in Barangay Obrero in Calbayog.

The senator also distributed food packs, vitamins, and other sports equipment to the beneficiaries while assuring the public of his commitment to the government’s Malasakit Centers program and the “better fire response and preparedness” following the enactment of RA 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act.

Go thanked Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, Samar First District Representative James “Jimboy” Tan, Calbayor Mayor Raymund “Monmon” Uy, and other local officials "for their service to the people in Samar."

Meanwhile, the senator also inspected the super health center being built in Sta. Margarita, Samar.

As senate chairman of the committee on Health, Go said he is “happy” that there is a super health center in the town, saying that “it is a big help for the poor.”

“They no longer need to go to far places for treatment,” Go said.

The senator and his team also distributed other food packs and financial assistance to 1,000 indigent families in the said area.

The beneficiaries received financial assistance from the DSWD under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (Aics) program. (SunStar Philippines)
