THE San Carlos City Environment Management Office (CEMO) conducted the Search for Sustainable and Eco-friendly Schools from March 14 to April 14, 2023.

At least 49 of the 65 elementary and secondary schools participated in the said contest focusing on the environmental-related aspects of the school’s policy, environmental dimensions of school operations, environment-related features of the school curriculum, presence of vibrant eco-organizations on campus, presence of environmental partners and linkages in various programs, projects and activities and programs on Covid-19 health protocols.

CEMO Staff with Engineer Roeder Amigable of the City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, Sheila Joan Bautista and Ria Dada of Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), Community Development Assistants and Agricultural Technician II Rodolfo Sapalo, Jr. assessed Balabag Elementary School, Quezon Elementary & National High School and Napudlan Elementary School of Barangay Quezon last April 11.

Engineer Arthur A. Batomalaque, Integrated Waste Management/Pollution Control Division Head of CEMO, said the contest is part of their office’s IEC programs, aimed at educating the students until they graduate and instilling in children the importance of environmental protection.

Batomalaque added the contest progress and improvements among schools, especially in the students’ traits about environmental protection, are now visible. Batomalaque encouraged other schools to participate so their students may learn the importance of environmental protection. (PR)
