Police identify persons of interest on death of ex-Balamban barangay councilor

THE Balamban Police Station has already a persons of interest in the killing of former Barangay Baliwagan councilor Alfonso Buot in Sitio Malbar of the said barangay on Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Buot, 57, was on board his motorcycle when shot and killed by the riding-in-tandem.

Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare, spokesperson of PRO 7 Director Brigadier General Anthony Aberin, said the family of the victim has identified the gunman.

He said the family promised to cooperate with the police in the investigation after they buried the victim. Currently, the Balambam police are gathering more evidence that would solve the murder.

Based on the CCTV footage that the police had obtained near the crime scene, Buot was killed by two persons, not one as earlier stated by some witnesses.

The police are considering two motives behind Buot’s death.

First, Buot was reportedly a police asset.

Pelare said many persons involved in illegal activities in Balamban were arrested based on the information provided by Buot.

Second, Buot was a former member of the New People’s Army in Davao Region and served a 14-year sentence at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

He was released from jail in 1994 after being granted amnesty.

“This guy or the victim was feeding information sa law enforcement officers, basin og nasuko tong mga nadakpan then this could be the motive along with other few motives that we’re still considering,” Pelare said.

“Daghan sad siyag history no, in fact didto siya sa Davao sa una he was also tagged as one of the CTG (community terrorist group) members dayon karon naa sad toy instance nga nadakpan siya for search warrant for illegal possession of firearms and recently he was feeding information to law enforcement agencies,” Pelare disclosed.

Buot’s wife, Baliwagan barangay councilor Anna Marie, earlier said that her husband had informed her that he intended to run for barangay captain in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election this coming October.

The victim finished his three terms as barangay councilor in 2018.

The PRO 7 vowed to cooperate with the Balamban Police Station in the investigation to ensure that the victim received justice. (AYB, TPT)
