LEYTE Conquerors delegation of the Department of Education (DepEd) Leyte Division vowed to regain its championship title in this year’s edition of the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) meet, which will run from April 24 to 27, 2023.

“As your new division superintendent, I express my admiration to everyone in the team. I am with you in your determination to go all the way and make a comeback win in this year’s EVRAA. We believe we can achieve it with your skills, teamwork, and discipline,” said Dr. Mariza Magan, Leyte Schools Division superintendent.

“Yet, as we strive for victory, let us maintain the values of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and above all, fun during the games,” she added.

A total of 480 student-athletes from Leyte will compete during the games at the Leyte Sports Development Center and other venues in Tacloban City.

While Magan inspired the Leyte delegation to “play harder,” she also reminded the players to “always show respect to our opponents in the spirit of true sportsmanship.”

“These past three years have been challenging for all of us due to the pandemic. Today, as we are given a chance to compete again in the EVRAA 2023, let us make the most out of it and make lasting memories in this competition,” Magan said.

As co-host division of EVRAA, Magan also thanked Leyte Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla, the Provincial Government, mayors from 40 towns of Leyte, team officials, coaches, parents, athletes, and other stakeholders for their support.

During the 2019 EVRAA games, Leyte settled for the second spot, with 56 gold, 37 silver, and 40 bronze medals.

Over 5,000 players across 13 divisions in the region will participate in the games. (SunStar Philippines)
