BOXER John Michael Zulueta will defend his Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) light flyweight title against Indonesian veteran Silem Serang on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 27-year-old Zulueta is looking for a win after fighting Thai prospect Suriya Kraimanee to a split draw in his last fight on Nov. 30, 2022 in Thailand.
Zulueta is working his way up to a world title shot. He’s currently ranked No. 10 by the World Boxing Association and No. 36 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) in the minimumweight division, and No. 12 by the International Boxing Federation in the light
flyweight division.
The 33-year-old Serang is a 10-year veteran that has fought the likes of WBC minimumweight champion Panya Pradabsri, Wanheng Menayothin, Suriyan Satorn, Sirichai Thaiyen and Tanawat Nakoon.
Serang dropped his last two fights against Toshihiko Era and Huu Toan Le.
Zulueta is 14-0-3 with seven knockouts, while Serang is 19-25-3 with two knockouts.
Also seeing action in the undercard are welterweight prospect Ador Torres and fighting doctor JV Tuazon.
Torres takes on undefeated Piraphong Phuitthoeng in an ABF welterweight contest.
Torres won his last three fights and won the ABF welterweight belt with a fourth-round stoppage of Meechaiya Kaiwiset last Dec. 28 in Thailand.
Phuitthoeng, a former Muay Thai fighter, just transitioned to boxing last year and demolished Duang Hongin via a second-round technical knockout. He followed it up with a first-round stoppage of Weerayut Wannsari last March 28.
Torres is 7-4-1 with four knockouts, while Phuitthoeng is 2-0 with two knockouts.
Tuazon, in the meantime, will lock horns with experienced Jack Amisa.
The 44-year-old Filipino-American doctor just returned to fighting in 2022 after a 13-year layoff. He won his last two fights, a unanimous decision over Nattapol Attachak and a first-round technical knockout of Kitsanai Aeksatjawatee.
Amisa lost 13 of his last 15 fights. He hasn’t tasted a win since beating Sis Morales in 2015.
Tuazon is 3-4-2 with two knockouts, while Amisa is 21-50-3 with 14 knockouts. (EKA)
