Sports facilities in Davao City improving

ASIDE from the Davao City-University of the Philippines Sports Complex, a city official said private sports facilities in Davao City, especially from the academe, continue to improve.

Mikey Aportadera, Sports Development Division of the Davao City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) head, said most of the tertiary schools are upgrading their sports facilities.

“For [private sports facilities], we’ve seen a lot of facilities sprouting,” Aportadera said during the iSpeak press conference, May 4.

He mentioned colleges such as the sports gymnasiums at the University of Mindanao-Matina Campus, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Davao, Ateneo de Davao University, Mapua Malayan Colleges and Holy Cross of Davao College who improved their facilities, such as adding more bleachers, enhancing the aesthetics, among others.

“One thing that I’ve seen been constructing [Addu, LPU]... Ang Malayan basketball ang akong nakita didto [na gi-improve], ang ubang dagkong school such as UM, and I hope Holy Cross (HCDC) will retain ang ilang gibuhat [na mga renovations],” Aportadera said in an ambush interview, May 4.

Aportadera added the Davao City National High School had also improved its facilities.

He said the improving facilities should help the Davao athletes improve their skills in competitions.

“We also provide collaborations for the events [with them],” Aportadera said.

Notably, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), headed by its chairman Richard Bachmann, visited the Davao-UP sports complex to inspect the facilities on April 30.

Aportadera said the sports complex in Mintal needs “polishing” before it will be open to the public. ICE
