LOCAL police have launched a manhunt operation against a cop who shot and killed a woman in Tacloban City Wednesday afternoon, May 3, 2023.

The suspect was identified as Senior Master Sergeant Van Gregory Benitez, 44, who has been assigned at the Tacloban City Police Office.

Police identified the victim as Jessica Durana, 30, single, a resident of Tacloban.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the different parts of her body after she was shot by the suspect while walking along the pathway around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay 43, Quarry District in the city.

She was walking with her mother, Henerosa, when the suspect suddenly appeared from behind, and stood in front of them.

According to the police, the suspect pointed his short firearm toward the victim and fired several shots while uttering the words: “Sorry, Jessica."

"Thereafter, the suspect casually walked away," police said in the report.

Police said that based on their initial investigation, the motive of the shooting was "jealousy and hatred." (SunStar Philippines)
