Local election in Magalang

Local election in the Municipality of Magalang, although it is yet a long way to go is already a brewing topic in practically every corner of the community.

This is a pastime among lovers of politics centering their discussion on the question as to who would be the probable protagonists in the coming 2024 local elections.

Grapevine sources reveal that former Mayor Pecson's supporters have started the ball rolling purposely to assess their chances of challenging the present administration of the incumbent Magalang Local Chief Executive.

As a matter of fact Mr. Person has been reportedly making the rounds in sorne barangays to consult his former leaders who may have the potentials to compete against Mayor Malu's barangay leaders, in preparation for the barangay election this coming month of October of the present year.

It has been a proven fact that punong barangays and barangay kagawads are always in the center of action during the election time and that is why local as well as national candidates devote much of their precious time and efforts to solicit for their supports.

Rumors circulating around, I don't know if it is true, Mr. Pecson, instead of running for Mayor will prefer to run for vice mayor, if this so, then he will face the now Municipal Councilor Hon. Norman L. Lacson.

Well, let us wait and see for this interesting political gossip. Vice Mayor Joseph Guzman aka Duterte will have no choice, but to raise the curtain to announce publicly his desire for the highest political position of the town of Magalang. May mga bulung-bulungan na kumakalat sa kapaligiran na hindi daw patas ang laban kung ito ay tutoo para daw David at Goliath ang labanan.

From my personal point of view, whoever is thinking of challenging the present leadership, will be an uphill battle for him. The sitting Mayor as always the case has the advantage over on whoever is the opponent, because she has control over the administrative and operational aspect of the local government.

This is a reality and nobody can question that. In terms of accomplishment, ever since Mayora Malu took the driver's seat to assume the responsibility to provide her constituents with an enviable advocacy, immense improvements have emerged in the town of Magalang. Infrastructure development within the community is seemingly insurmountable, asphalting and repair of main and secondary roads have been going on satisfactorily.

Business among low income and marginalized groups have roled out, enjoying enough income for their families. Inflation is not being felt in so far as Magalenos are concerned, because they earned much from their small businesses.

Economic growth has reached its tremendous level because for the first time food outlets like McDonald and Jollibee and many more have been put up which contribute greatly to the already big revenues of the town of Magalang.

Many believe that in the near future Magalang will soon be a tourist destination because it is located on higher ground and not badly affected by heavy downpour during rainy season.

Unlike other towns of the province, when rainy season starts, residents get disturbed thinking that, if rains continue, one thing sure their town will be flooded by the overflowing Pampanga River. This will have a devastating effect in their lives, last holy week "The Banal A Bunduk, Dalan Ning Krus" at barangay Ayala, Magalang a project of the Soroptomist Magalang Chapter was visited by hundreds of devotees.

They came from the different parts of the province and some parts of Central Luzon.

They struggled to trek the stations of the cross from 1" station to 14th station. Bishop Paciano Aniceto, inspired by the Soroptomist project blessed it in the year 2012.

Hopefully with the guidance and blessing of God, in the coming years, more Catholic devotees will again flock at the Banal A Bunduk Dalan Ning Krus.

Aside from the many projects that Mayora Malu has accomplished, which I already mentioned above, I wish to specify here another remarkable one, I am referring to the development and repair of old and long forgotten Magalang Patio which is situated at the heart of the town of Magalang.

She prioritized the conversion of the venue into something impressive and admirable, which is now being frequented by young and old Magalenos, spend and enjoy their precious moments, jogging, walking and dancing day and night.

The Place is also appropriately designed to various activities like, social, religious, educational and political.

God willing, the people of Magalang will continue to support her administration and surely many more projects will be poured in the town of Magalang.
