POPE Francis' representative in the Philippines urged the Catholic Church in the country on Friday, May 5, 2023, to put more premium on doing "missionary outreach" in the communities.

In a report by CBCP News, Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Charles Brown said members of the Church should ensure that they are with the people as much as possible.

“The missionary outreach is the most important thing to prioritize... direct contact as much as you can,” Brown said as quoted by the official of the news agency of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

"What the Church needs is direct and immediate contact with people," he added.

The apostolic nuncio also said that doing office work is not as important for the Church.

He said this is because office work does not translate to the growth of the Church.

"You must not get involved too much in office work," said the prelate.

"While administrative work is necessary, direct contact remains the most important part of the mission because that’s where conversions happen," he added.

Brown issued the statement during the 100th founding anniversary celebration of the Missionary Catechist of the Sacred Heart in Santo Tomas, Batangas. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
