Eco suffers 1st career loss

ROSLAN Eco suffered his first career defeat after losing to undefeated world-ranked Goki Kobayashi by a fourth-round technical knockout on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 22-year-old Eco was aiming for a huge upset and fought hard against Kobayashi. However, Kobayashi stopped Eco in the 34-second mark of the fourth. Eco’s corner came into the ring saved him from more punishment after the young Pinoy apparently broke his jaw in the previous round.

Eco suffered his first career loss and dropped to 10-1 with seven knockouts. The 24-year-old Kobayashi successfully defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific minimumweight belt and improved to 6-0 with four knockouts.

Kobayashi is currently ranked No. 7 by the World Boxing Association, No. 9 by the International Boxing Federation, No. 10 by the World Boxing Council and No. 11 by the WBO. He’ll most likely move up the rankings and a step closer to a possible world title shot.

Meanwhile, Pinoy warriors Jason Buenaobra and Calaudevan Sese also lost their respective bouts in the undercard.

Buenaobra (10-8-3, 4 KOs) lost to Kota Kaneko (3-0, 2 KOs) by a one-sided unanimous decision, while Sese (9-4-3, 3 KOs) lost to Junya Shimada (4-0) also by a lopsided unanimous decision. (EKA)
