HIGHLIGHTING the latest trends in the building, construction, and interior design sectors, the 7th edition of the Philippine Building and Construction Expo (Philbex) and Travel and Leisure Expo (TLex), will be opening today, May 11.

“It’s happy to note that our interior designers are always embracing the sustainability, nandyan ang promotion of bamboos in all of their interiors and furniture,” Leo Salonga, Philbex expo event organizer and Worldbex Services International marketing communications manager, said during PepTalks at SM Lanang Premier, May 9.

Now back after the lifting of pandemic restrictions, this year’s two expos will feature around 25,000 participants from 450 exhibitors and companies, showcasing their innovations and materials. Around 100 of these exhibitors are from Davao Region.

In comparison, Salonga said there were only 300 exhibitors participating last 2019.

Philbex organizers said they are expecting 19,000 to 20,000 visitors for both events.

“It’s happy to know that they [exhibitors and participants] are exposing the local [building and construction] industry, promoting our artisan art from the Philippines,”

During the Philippine Interior Designers Gallery (PIDG) art exhibit, they will be featuring Visayas and Mindanao Regions’ innovations in the building and construction industry.

Salonga said there will also be a mini-convention happening with talks from their sponsors and officials from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Tourism.

“We continue to highlight the shows like the PIDG, the event called City of Tomorrow, in which we feature scaled models from architectural firms, featuring 12 local and national architectural firms and also not just the professional fields, and we also want to capture the education and students,” Salonga said.

The simultaneous events will be happening from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 11 to 14 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang Premier. (ICE)
