THE Cebu Youth Artists Society for Good Governance, Junior Chamber International Cebu Sinulog and Bravehart Advertising joined forces to hold “Kolor Kasikas: Painting the House of Hope,” a two-day mural event, on May 6-7, 2023.

Over 70 volunteers gathered at House of Hope Cebu in Lapu-Lapu City to paint walls for a cause.

Kolor Kasikas brought together volunteer artists and individuals with artistic inclinations, collaborating to paint 20 walls with the theme “Streams in the Wilderness.” The theme symbolized hope amid chaos, aiming to inspire the residents of House of Hope Cebu, a Christian drug rehabilitation center and aftercare home for victims of drug abuse.

The goal of the mural event was to provide hope to the center’s residents and raise awareness that there is hope for victims of drug abuse when they receive proper guidance and support. It emphasized that a little bit of love and encouragement can go a long way in helping people overcome their struggles.

“As a society, we need to recognize the struggles that those suffering from drug abuse go through and provide them with support and guidance,” the organizers of Kolor Kasikas said in a joint statement.

“Through this mural event, we aimed to spread awareness about the importance of helping those who have taken the first step towards recovery,” they added.

Supporting individuals in their recovery from drug abuse can have a positive ripple effect on society, they said.

By providing them with the necessary resources and support, Kolor Kasikas organizers said people can help break the cycle of addiction and crime. This, in turn, leads to a safer and more productive community.

Kolor Kasikas organizers said it all starts with extending a hand of support, whether it’s streaked with paint or not, and showing that we care.
