Guagua celebrates 433rd founding anniversary

GUAGUA—The celebration for the 433rd Aldo ning Balen Guagua was formally commemorated yesterday, May 17.

The event, led by Mayor Anthony Joseph Torres and the town councilors, include a series of events, cultural activities, and promotion of the town’s products and crafts days before the founding date.

Classes in Guagua town have been suspended to provide the young generation an opportunity to participate and reflect on the importance of the celebration.

The celebrations featured street dance performances by the Guagua youth followed by the blessing and awarding of the garbage trucks to 14 barangays of the town.

The town also hosted a job fair featuring 20-plus companies at Manuel P. Santiago Park in Plaza Burgos.

Torres said the purpose of the celebration is to remember the achievements of their ancestors and relive their sacrifices for the development of Guagua.

Torres also led the opening of the Obrang Guagua Trade Fair in a local mall here showcasing the various crafts, products, and industries of Guagua town.

The event is in line with the celebration of the 433rd Aldo Ning Balen Guagua.

The town has become an economic hub for western Pampanga throughout its history.

The event was attended by House Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, former Congressman Mikey Arroyo, Gov. Dennis Pineda, and Vice Gov. Lilia Pineda.

It was participated by homegrown Guagua entrepreneurs from various industries from food processing to town crafts like wood carving, furniture, guitars, and many others.

The event also showcased wood works from local artists from Guagua's Betis district which is famous for its woodcarving tradition.

Torres said the event aimed to support local industries.

He added that the industries showcased in the exhibit had contributed to the development.
