In a police report sent to SunStar Davao, the victim was identified as Vlanche Marie Bragas, 28, a resident of Purok 18, Megaville, Calinan, Davao City.

Her body was found around 8 a.m. on May 17.

“Ongoing pa po ang investigation (The investigation is still ongoing),” Catherine dela Rey, Davao City Police Office spokesperson, said in an online interview through Messenger on May 17.

As per the initial investigation of Calinan Police Station, the cadaver was found in a “prone position” at an open contour canal at Purok 6, Brgy. Dacudao. The investigation report added that the body was found particularly at the banana plantation owned by a certain banana cooperative. The cadaver was also covered in banana leaves.

The victim was also said to be missing since 12:30 a.m. of May 17, and was last seen riding on an “ongbak”, or a color yellow tri-wheeler vehicle near Crossing Fausta, Calinan District, Davao City.

Dela Rey said there have no “persons of interest” so far.

She added that although the motive has not yet been identified, they are looking at the possibility that the incident is a rape-murder case.

“Wala pa sad na confirm kung (na) rape... pero ang sanina sa biktima kay ang t-shirt nakasaka, ang panty ug pants kay nakababa (We cannot confirm yet if this is a rape case, but when the victim was found she was partially undressed),” Dela Rey said.

In connection to the incident, the United Architects of the Philippines - Davao chapter (UAP-Davao) expressed their sympathy to the victim’s family and condemnation of the incident that happened to their colleague.

“This unspeakable act goes against the very fabric of humanity and the principles we hold dear as architects, professionals, and fellow human beings.,” UAP-Davao said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on May 17. ICE with JPC
