FOLLOWING the launch of its Bike NorthMin program, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Northern Mindanao is set to launch the Camiguin Isle Bike Tour on May 28, 2023, at the province's Capitol Grounds.

The 64-kilometer bike tour around the island is organized in partnership with the Provincial Government of Camiguin and Recreational Outdoor eXchange (ROX). The event aims to promote bike tourism in Northern Mindanao.

It is also in support of the province's "Camiguin Isle Be There" brand launching.

"Kaning Isle Bike Tour ipakita nato nga Camiguin is a bikeable province because it has a 64-kilometer circumferential road. We would like to show them unsa ang mga destinations nga maadtoan nila sa Camiguin on their bikes," DOT Regional Director Marie Elaine Unchuan said.

According to Uchuan, they expect a total of 150 bikers to participate in the bike tour, in which 50 are from Camiguin and 100 bikers from other areas in the region.

The regional director further said they have already identified stops in every municipality in Camiguin. In particular, in the famous tourism destinations of the island.

This will not only bring tourists to Camiguin, but also generate income for local communities and businesses, Unchuan said.

The bikers participating in the isle bike tour will be provided with free meals and accommodation, a race bib, a jersey, and a certificate. They also get a chance to win a foldable bike from ROX.

"This is not a race. It's actually the promotion of bike tourism, nga mag tour ang laing-laing mga bikers sa different destinations sa Camiguin. Nag start na ang registration until we get the number of participants," Unchuan said.

"We hope that this is going to be an annual program. It's eco-friendly, sustainable and now everybody is getting conscious about their health after the pandemic so I'm expecting, praying and hoping that a lot more people will be biking to save our planet and also so we will all be healthy," the regional director added.
