Dy-Pila, Poro-Lopez win Alta Vista’s View 2023

THE pairing of former pro Mark Anthony Dy and Rolando Pila won the best gross honors in The View Invitational 2023, the annual member-guest tournament of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club last Sunday, May 21, 2023, in Pardo, Cebu City.

Rene Poro and partner Lambert Lopez won the net honors of the four-day, 36-hole tournament that used the Modified Stableford Scoring System.

Dy fired rounds of three-under-par 39 and one-under-par 37, while Pila made even-par 36 and one-over 35 points. The team ran away with the title with an aggregate of 147 points on rounds of 75 and 72.

Poro shot 39 and 42 net points, while Lopez made 28 and 30 for a two-day aggregate of 139 points (67-72). They won the overall title after edging the teams of Jun Zambo and Dennis de Guzman and Anwar Abarintos and Washington Lim in the countback.

Zambo and de Guzman took home the Division 1 title with their 139 (69-70). Zambo, the club’s senior champion, scored rounds of 30 and 32 points, while de Guzman made 39 and 39.

Abarintos and Lim had a slow start, where they made only 33 and 30 points, respectively, on the first day. In the second round, they fired 76 points, with Abarintos making 36 and Lim shooting 40 to claim the Division 2 title.

Jette Calderon, a third-generation member of the club, and partner Eugene Andales bagged the Division 3 title. Calderon fired rounds of 35 and 38, while Andales made 36 and 28 for a total of 137 points.

Marlou Cugtas and Elvis Jequinto bagged the best gross honors for the age category, where the total age of the team members must be at least 120 years, and no player is below 55 years old. Cugtas, a lawyer, fired rounds of 29 and 34 while Jequinto, a retired Air Force officer, made 23 and 35. Their aggregate gross score was 121 points.

The best net honors for this group went to Loloy Sabuga (39-39) and his partner Dr. Gene Matiga (30-40), with 148 points. (JNP)
