THE construction of the Bucana Bridge, part of the Davao City Coastal Road Project, is expected to start this December, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Tuesday.
Ted Cadiang, project engineer of the Bucana Brdge, said before the Davao City Council that the procurement period for the civil works contractor will start next month until December.
“We just finished the detailed engineering design, it's already approved by the central office of DPWH,” Cadiang said.
The project is a four-lane bridge with a total length of 1.43 meters and a budget of around P4-billion. The target date for completion is on December 2025.
“The money was already earmarked through a grant by the Chinese government. The only allocation coming from the Philippine government will be in terms of taxes,” Cadiang said.
Meanwhile, the first segment or Segment A of the Davao City Coastal Road is targeted to open to motorists in June or earlier, as per DPWH-Davao officer-in-charge Juby Cordon.
“We heard na mayroon din for inauguration na project sa Cagayan de Oro and we are hoping na isabay na siya para naman makita ni President Marcos (ang to open na segment),” Cordon said during an interview on Tuesday, May 23.
The first segment of the Coastal Road stretches from Bago Aplaya to Tulip Drive. (ICM)
