Vitor makes statement winin 1st international fight

VIRGEL Vitor made a statement win in his first international fight after a brutal second-round knockout of Thai Campee Phayom to win the vacant World Boxing Council Asian Silver featherweight strap in the main event of “Knockout Blows” on Thursday night, May 25, 2023, at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok, Thailand.

Vitor started out strong, landing a couple of solid hooks to Phayom’s head in the opening round. Phayom had Vitor in trouble in the later part of the round after a solid counter left hook rocked the 25-year-old Filipino prospect.

Vitor kept his composure and finished the round strong with a couple of good combinations.

The 25-year-old Phayom started to gain some confidence and landed some solid shots to the body in the second round.

Vitor answered back with left hooks to the head that hurt Phayom. After missing with a right uppercut, Vitor immediately followed it up with a left hook that landed flush on the temple of Phayom that knocked him out cold, face first on the canvas.

Referee Chumpol Intayot didn’t even bother to finish the 10-count and waved off the fight at the 1:34 mark of the second round.

The medical staff immediately attended to Phayom, who was still out cold, and brought him out of the ring on a stretcher.

Vitor, also the World Boxing Organization Oriental super featherweight champion, won his eighth straight fight and improved to 21-2 with 14 knockouts. On the other hand, Phayom dropped to 23-7-2 with 15 knockouts. (EKA)
