Bacolod on blue alert status for Super Typhoon Mawar

THE Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) is now on blue alert status for Super Typhoon Mawar, which is expected to make landfall in the Philippines Saturday, May 27, 2023.

Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan, head of DRRMO, said Friday, May 26, that they already instructed all the barangay officials to prepare and monitor their areas of jurisdiction, especially their residents who are living in the danger zone and coastal areas.

She said Super Typhoon Mawar will bring rains because of the southwest monsoon or habagat.

She added declogging was already conducted in various drainages to prevent floods.

Pornan noted that all the barangays were also tasked to prepare their evacuation center to accommodate the possible affected residents.

She said the Department of Social Service and Development (DSSD) was also preparing the food packs at the evacuation center in Barangay Taculing.

“It’s a super typhoon, so we need to prepare and we will continue our monitoring,” she said.

The DRRMO also reactivated its Emergency Operation Center as well as the Incident Command Post in Barangay Taculing.
