A MAN who worked as a helper for a sidewalk eatery along General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City died after he was hacked in front of his house at the reclamation area in Barangay Carreta past 10 p.m. Saturday night, May 27, 2023.

The victim, 18-year-old Kerwin Tañeza, was identified by his aunt Flordeliza Vargas, who lives in the same barangay.

Vargas said she was on her way to sleep when a neighbor informed her about her nephew’s plight.

According to witnesses, the victim was playing a game on his cellphone when the suspect, a certain Shawn or Lalang, appeared out of nowhere and suddenly attacked him.

Tañeza was able to run a few meters before he dropped dead in front of an establishment along General Maxilom Avenue.

He had a deep hack wound in his back, which police believed caused his death.

Investigators of the Mabolo Police Station are still trying to find out why he was killed.(BBT, PJB)
