SEVERAL TRIPS have been canceled by shipping companies due to the rough sea conditions brought about by Typhoon Betty (Mawar).

The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) announced on its Facebook page that at least 10 trips have been canceled from May 26 to 29, 2023.

According to the advisory, all trips from the Danao City port to Isabel, Leyte, and Camotes Islands were suspended. Additionally, trips from Cebu to Bato, Leyte, Tubigon and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, Ormoc, Cagayan de Oro, Calbayog, Lazi, and Iligan were also canceled.

CPA public information officer Maryknoll Bolasa said that despite the canceled trips, there were no stranded passengers as other shipping lines continued their operations.

Bolasa advised affected passengers to either return to their respective residences in Cebu while waiting for further announcements or rebook their tickets with other shipping lines.

The CPA has released a statement outlining various measures to prevent casualties and property damage and ensure the prompt resumption of port operations in the face of the impact of Typhoon Betty.

The statement included the preemptive evacuation of stranded passengers who couldn’t return to their homes to the nearest government evacuation centers for their safety.

Among other measures, the CPA emphasized round-the-clock monitoring of all ongoing port operations in Cebu Province and directed port managers and harbor masters to oversee berth and anchorage areas.

The CPA also activated the Fire Brigade or Emergency Response Team for all port stakeholders. (AML)
