NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said he will stay with his party, the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).

Lacson made the reaction when asked if he will join the Kilusan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino (KNP) led by Bacolod City Mayor Albee Benitez, who is his close ally.

"We have not talked about it yet," Lacson said.

Lacson and Benitez are leaders of local political group, Love Negros.

The governor said members of Love Negros are also members of national parties.

"But we leave it to members if they want to join the KNP," Lacson pointed out.

Benitez was designated as president of the KNP which was formed by members of Congress and other elected officials supporting the Marcos administration.

Once their party will be accredited by the Commission on Elections as a major national political party, Benitez said they will pay a courtesy call to the President.

Benitez said the group is a political movement designed to bring unity, in the service of the country.

Most of the group's founding leaders are members of the once-ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan.

Meanwhile, Lacson said they are not affected by the reported political squabbles at the House of Representatives.

The reported squabbling was exposed after former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was demoted from Senior Deputy Speaker.

She denied reports that she is planning to launch a coup to unseat House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Ramualdez. She also clarified that it is not true that behind her moves was First Lady Lisa Araneta Marcos.*
