EYED to become a business district in Davao City, the 22-hectare Davao Global Township reopened its roads to the public on May 25.

The township is located in the former Davao Golf Club property in Matina.

Cebu Landmasters executive vice president and COO Jose Franco Soberano said the township should create more investments, job opportunities, recreation, and lifestyle hub.

“The purpose of the township is to improve the city diri, motabang ta sa comfort sa Dabawenyos, mao gyud ni ang goal nato (will give comfort to Dabawenyos, that’s our goal),” Soberano said in an interview.

The P33-billion development in Matina will have a residential area, a cultural center and a shopping and retail mall. When everything is done, Soberano said the township will also house 40 to 50 buildings and residential condominium areas, and their company is looking to expand the area.

The East Village at DGT, a residential area, will be completed by around the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the cultural center and retail mall will be finished two years from now.

“Sa walay hinambog no, it’s a very high-standard gyud (Without exaggeration, the place is of very high quality)... not only it’s very modern, but also very sustainable, kini nga lugara dili ni mobaha ang kay drainage ani ato man ni gibutang underground (as it has been designed to prevent flooding through an underground drainage system.),” Soberano said.

“Importante safe, walkable, piritng lapara aning mga sidewalk, and kana gyung site na dili na ka kailangang magbyahe og layo especially for the south (area of the city)... at least para sa ilaha dili na kaayo layo ang byahe (It is important that the site is safe and walkable, with well-maintained sidewalks and proper lighting. This will be especially beneficial for those in the southern part of the city who won't have to travel far to access such amenities),” he added.

Also present in the event are the Davao City officials Bernard Al-ag, Al Ryan Alejandre, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, and former president Rodrigo Duterte.

The township is a joint venture of CLM and Yhest Realty Development Corporation, which broke ground in November 2018. ICE
