LANAO del Norte will soon be able to generate enough hogs and pork to improve its swine industry as the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Northern Mindanao is set to construct a biosecured swine facility in Barangay Rebucon, Kolambugan, this province.

According to DA Regional Executive Director Carlene Collado, the P5.3-million biosecured swine facility aims to improve the local swine industry and adopt a calibrated repopulation strategy that could help restore the sector's ability to generate adequate quantities of hogs and pork.

"Through this project, people can allocate the stocks for breeding, in which the local production will have a means of livelihood," Collado said.

The facility will have a perimeter fence, climate-controlled animal house, waste management, basic farm equipment and a shower area.

The region's agriculture agency will also provide 300 piglets, 550 bags of feed, drugs and biologics once the construction of the biosecured swine facility is completed.

According to DA-Northern Mindanao Livestock Focal Person Jamaica Docdoc, the project will be managed by the local government unit under the funding from the National Livestock Program through its Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion.
