Former rebels in Davao Region will undergo online job training in some geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (Gidas) in the region.
“We will be going there, in partnership with the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep). Ang aim talaga nito (we aim to) is for them to be able to land in online jobs later on, if not then other jobs,” Evamay dela Rosa, regional director, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT-Davao), said during the National Information and Communications Technology (NICT) Month press conference on June 2, 2023.
She said that although the area is classified as Gidas, they already installed an internet connection to accommodate and conduct the boot camp.
Dela Rosa added that even after the boot camp, participants will still be able to use their facility installed in Talaingod, Davao del Norte.
However, Dela Rosa admitted that they have an insufficient number of computer units to accommodate all the former rebels for the training.
“We really hope to augment a number of computers din,” she added.
Meanwhile, the training program for the former rebels is in line with the NICT month celebration which kicked off on June 2, 2023.
DICT-Davao said this year's celebration will have four sub-themes – digital innovation and inclusion, digital governance, digital workforce competitiveness and digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity.
“Week 1 showcases the importance of digital innovation and promotes inclusive approaches to digital transformation. Week 2 concentrates on government initiatives aimed at enhancing digital governance, governance, and government for excellent and efficient public service,” DICT-Davao said.
In its third week, DICT-Davao said activities will emphasize providing digital literacy and capacity building to enhance the skills and competency of the workforce. While in week 4 they will highlight the critical role of digital infrastructure and cybersecurity, emphasizing the importance of robust infrastructure and safeguarding against threats.
“ICT Month aims to drive progress by exploring key areas of digital transformation and inspiring collaborative efforts toward a brighter digital future,” DICT-Davao said.
