UTP wraps up National Championship Elite Eight Playoff

THE Unified Tennis Philippines (UTP) concluded the National Championship Elite Eight Playoff and awarded the winners Sunday night, June 4, at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Park Marina in San Carlos City.

In the 12 Under Girls Category final match, Maristella Torrecampo of Los Baños, Laguna, defeated Ma. Caroliean Fiel of Ormoc City in a 6-1, 6-4 score while Alexandre Coyiuto of Makati City ruled in the 12 Under Boys against Armik Gabrio Serillo of Dumaguete City.

Jana Jelena Nicole Diaz of Cavite City dominated the 14U Girls in a score of 6-3,6-3 versus Jayden Reece Ballado of Nueva Ecija. Kenzo Marcus Brodeth of Ormoc City was also dominant in the U14 Boys beating Lexious Grabriez Cruz of Nueva Ecija with a score of 6-1,6-4.

Meanwhile, in the Under 16 Girls Category, Maria Hannah Divinagracia of Bacolod City and Kimi Aiyanna Brodeth of Ormoc City displayed an exciting match.

Divinagracia swept the game and bagged the championship trophy with a score of 7-6(5),6-4 against the latter. Mcleen Gomera of Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, and John Kendrick Bona of Manila also had a thrilling 3-set match; Gomera succeeded and claimed the championship trophy.

Rival siblings, Mica Ella and Kaye Ann Emana of Manila had a neck-to-neck match. Mica Ella activated her prowess in the third set, settling Kaye Ann as a finalist in a final score of 7-6(5),4-6,10-7.

On the other hand, Vince Serna of Butuan City won the 18 Under Boys Category against Mateo Rivas of Manila in a 6-2,2-6,10-7 score.

Winners of the different categories will compete in the International Tennis Tournament in Malaysia this December.

Alexandre Coyiuto, 12 under boy’s champion, shared that an opponent almost defeated him but was able to get back on the third set. He added that sports taught him discipline beyond pressure, especially during tournaments.

Kimi Aiyanna Brodeth, 16 under girls finalist, said even though she didn’t get the championship trophy, she is still happy to have made it to the finals; hopeful to be better next time.

Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona and 1st District Congressman Gerardo Vamayor Jr. congratulated the participating teams for a job well done; reminded them to continue to work hard, discipline their selves, and train more to excel in the years ahead.

Mayor Renato Gustilo thanked Congressman Valmayor and Vice Mayor Carmona for constantly supporting the sports program in the city, extended to the guests that they welcome them in San Carlos, and hoped that they would not forget their experience in the city.

Jackie Tomacruz, UTP General Manager, thanked San Carlos City, headed by Mayor Gustilo, for being the best host and for the warm welcome.

The Pintaflores Flores Dance and Company, San Carlos City Orchestra and Vocal Ensemble, and local talent and Tawag ng Tanghalan daily winner Jane Bargo entertained the participants and guests during the culmination activity where SP Member Jeffrey Hidalgo; Executive Assistant IV Airene Rose Gustilo of the City Mayor’s office and Kristoff Carmona, Executive Assistant III were among the attendees.
