THE number of road accidents in Liloan town, northern Cebu has increased in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

This was announced by Major Eric Gingoyon, chief of the Liloan Police Station, in an interview with SunStar Cebu.

According to Gingoyon, the Traffic Division of the municipality recorded two deaths due to reckless imprudence resulting in homicide this year compared to last year with only one.

While there were 34 accidents with reckless imprudence that resulted in physical injury in the previous year, there were 42 this year.

In the case of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, there were 49 involved in the accident and the number had increased to 58 in 2023.

Gingoyon said that most of the drivers involved in the accident were under the influence of liquor.

Gingoyon hopes that the number of accidents will decrease in the second quarter of this year.

The Liloan Police will coordinate with the Traffic Division to reduce road accidents.

It was learned that cases from the first three months of this year have all been settled, while there was one case last year that has not been settled yet as the suspect remains at large. (BBT/TPT)
