SM employees and Kagay-anon volunteers took part in a coastal cleanup activity in Bitan-ag Creek in Cagayan de Oro on Monday, June 5, 2023, as part of SM Prime Holdings Inc.'s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.

The SM Prime Holdings Inc., in support with the SM Supermalls and SM Cares, spearheaded the event together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

According to SM Supermalls Vice President for Corporate Compliance and SM Cares Program Director for the Environment engineer Liza Silerio, the Coastal Cleanup activity is part of the company's nationwide regular cleanups throughout the year that aims to raise awareness and mobilize communities to take action in protecting coastal areas and seas.

It initiates employees and the general public to engage in the spirit of Bayanihan, fostering collective action to safeguard the seas through the cleaning of coastlines and river channels.

It also signalled the celebration of the World Environment Day.

"We invite the public to join us in these meaningful initiatives and be part of the collective effort to preserve and restore the beauty of our natural environment," Silerio said.

Apart from Cagayan de Oro, SM Prime also collaborated with the DENR in Quezon City for the Environment for Life Forum, where the property developer will share its proactive initiatives to protect, conserve, manage, restore, and regenerate the environment and natural resources of the country.

On June 8, Coastal Cleanups will be carried out at Manila Bay in collaboration with SM by the Bay, marking the World Oceans Day.

Other cleanup locations are in Zambales with SM City Olongapo Downtown and in Batangas with SM Center Lemery.

The week-long activity will culminate in a Coastal Cleanup with SM City Cebu on June 10, underscoring the ongoing commitment of SM Prime to environmental preservation.
