'Almendras Gym' closed for 60-day rehabilitation

THE Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC), more known as Almendras Gym, will be temporarily closed to the public as it will be undergoing a 60-day rehabilitation starting today, June 10.

In a Facebook post on June 9, the City Government of Davao said it will be improving the facilities of the recreation center. All events held in the building within the 60-day period will be canceled.

City Economic Enterprise (CEE) officer-in-charge Maximo Macalipes said that the renovation will cost approximately P2.5 million under the Annual Development Fund 2022 from the City Government of Davao’s budget.

“Magcover siya atong (It will include) ceiling and electrical works, like rewiring sa center sa atong gym, floor tiles, and floor painting works pod,” Macalipes said in an interview with SunStar Davao.

For the meantime, expansion is not included in the current budget for renovation, but it will be considered, Macalipes said.

“Siguro in the near future, amo pod to siyang i-consider, but for now ang ma-provide nato is ang enhancements pa lang sa facilities (Perhaps in the near future, we can consider that renovation option. However, for now, what we can provide are enhancements to our facilities),” the official said,

“Later mu-push lang pod mi for another funding para sa (we will allocate another funding for the) expansion,” he added.

In the past, the DCRC had done renovations in the huddle area for players using the gymnasium, comfort rooms, and floor court paintings.

The gymnasium also held select sports events and city events. It also used to hold home games for Alab Pilipinas, a defunct basketball team playing in Asean Basketball League back in 2017.

The same year, the gym had undergone renovations. ICE
