THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) observed eight focus crimes in the city decreased by 40 percent.

The eight focus crimes identified by Philippine National Police (PNP) are murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft and motorcycle theft.

“Sa [On] eight focus crimes, from January to May 2022 [we have recorded] 212 [cases, compared to] January to May 2023 [we have recorded] 127 [cases],” DCPO spokesperson Police Major Catherine Dela Rey told SunStar Davao through Messenger.

“So bumaba po ang (Thus there is a drop of) crime incidents ng (by) 85 or 40 percent,” she added.

Dela Rey said the top three prevalent crimes last month are rape, theft, and murder.

Meanwhile, the official also said DCPO recorded crime clearance efficiency “by 96.46 percent” from the period of January to May 2023.

She added that the drop in criminal cases could be attributed to their various crime-prevention initiatives like Oplan Kilos addressing rape incidents and Oplan Rats Tugis tackling robbery and theft.

“[Also add] ang patrolling nato sa mga areas and then sa mga tourist spots naa man tay tourist police (Our patrolling in the areas and then in the tourist spots, we also have tourist police),” Dela Rey said during I-Speak media forum on Davao City Hall, June 8.

Meanwhile, Dela Rey also said that during their simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operation (Sacleo) conducted by each police unit in the region dated May 22 to 31, the DCPO had arrested 56 suspects involved in illegal drugs.

From that Sacleo, they had also arrested 78 gambling violators and 135 personalities with warrants of arrest.

DCPO in a Facebook post June 2 said the continuing anti-criminality and law enforcement operations are “manifestation of DCPO's continuous conduct of the core-focused operations in maintaining peace and order, providing a safe and secure Davao City”. ICE
