DA Outstanding Rural Women search starts

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO --- The Department of Agriculture for Central Luzon, led by the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD FPS), conducted a field validation for the 2023 Department of Agriculture Search for the Outstanding Rural Women in the agriculture and fisheries sector held in Maria Aurora the other day.

Aurora Provincial Nominee Agrifina Gabres was the first to be visited by the group led by GAD Head Secretariat Zayra Toledo, Rica Salas, and GAD Admin Staff Imariole Tayag.

The competition is held annually under the DA GFPS which is aligned with the implementation of Republic Act 9710 known as the Magna Carta of Women. This year's theme is "Outstanding Rural Women Award."

This is to identify women who have contributed to the agriculture and fisheries sector and served as an inspiration to their community.

Gabres is one of those who proved that women have a contribution in the field of agriculture and fisheries.

“Isa po ako sa mga kababaihan na marunong magmalasakit sa kapwa hindi ipinagdadamot ang kaalaman na gustong i-share po sa ibang tao. Bilang isang babae hindi mo talaga lubos maisip na ang isa po palang babae kaya niyang itayo o kaya niyang tumulong sa komunidad,” Gabres said.

Based on the guidelines, the evaluation criteria for field validation are focused on the Contribution to Food Security/Agricultural and Fishery Development, Contribution to Sustainable Development, and Impact on Rural Development.

Its scope is Filipino women who are not government employees who are engaged in actual farming and fishing and who belong to organizations and cooperatives.

It is also expected to visit in the next few days two other contestants from the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Zambales.
