AS THE Mayon Volcano continues to spew lava, the humanitarian arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is now preparing to send assistance to displaced families and individuals in Albay.

In its Situation Report No. 1 for the Mayon Volcano eruption, Caritas Philippines said their preparations are ongoing in the event that affected areas would require more assistance.

"Caritas Philippines’ humanitarian team is on standby for possible deployment to augment the needs of the local Caritas," said Caritas Philippines.

"The Alay Kapwa Solidarity Fund is also prepared to be utilized in any eventuality that the Diocesan Social Action Center (DSAC) will need help augmenting local resources," it furthered.

Caritas Philippines said it has also started coordinating with local agencies and other national partners, like the Philippine Faith-Based Forum (FBO PH), for possible aid.

There are also ongoing talks with in-country Caritas Internationalis member organizations, namely Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and Caritas Germany, according to Caritas Philippines.

Earlier, the Diocese of Legazpi has called for donations to augment the need of the families and individuals affected by the Mayon Volcano eruption.

As of June 15, the number of affected families is at 10,133 or an estimated 39,280 individuals.
