AT LEAST 42 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras have been installed in strategic locations in Oslob town, southern Cebu to ensure the safety of tourists.

Oslob Mayor Ronald Guaren said the move aims to reduce crime incidents in the municipality, especially since several local and foreign tourists visit Oslob every day for whale watching in Barangay Tan-awan.

Aside from Tan-awan’s whale sharks, other spots in Oslob that tourists often visit are the Sumilon Island sandbar and Tumalog Falls.

The Municipal Government has prioritized the installation of surveillance cameras within and outside the premises of the Municipal Hall and in strategic locations in Barangays Poblacion and Tan-awan.

“The presence of CCTV cameras is important because this will help the LGU (local government unit) and the authorities in many ways, such as solving the crime and protecting property among others,” Guarenas said.

Oslob officials plan to add more CCTVs in the future to enhance the town’s security monitoring capability. / ANV / TPT
