WITH the Social Action Center (SAC) of the Diocese of Legazpi still able to address the needs of its beleaguered flock, Caritas Philippines on Saturday, June 24, 2023, said it has adopted a calibrated response to the eruption of the Mayon Volcano in Albay.

In a radio interview, Caritas Philippines Executive Director Fr. Antonio Labiao said they have been told by SAC Legazpi that they are still capable of providing emergency response to evacuees in Albay.

"They said they can still manage. So, on our part, we are just gradually sending help. Whatever they will ask us, we are always prepared," said Labiao.

He said their calibrated assistance is part of their efforts to capacitate Caritas (SAC) Legazpi to respond to emergencies.

"For now, Caritas Philippines is focused mostly on the relief and rehabilitation of the evacuees," said Labiao.

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, as stated by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Following its heightened activity in the past two weeks, Mayon Volcano has already impacted approximately 10,110 families or 38,982 individuals residing in 26 barangays in Albay.

The majority of the affected families, totaling 5,336 or 18,733 individuals, are currently being accommodated in 28 active evacuation centers. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
