DUE to the limited available classrooms, the City College of Davao (CCD) will only accept 320 students for its opening school year this August 2023.
The number of students was approved by CCD’s Board of Trustees; however, it will increase in the future as more classrooms become available once CCD moves to a better location and facility.
CCD president Wenefredo Cagape said on Friday that the applicants for admission will undergo screening that will evaluate their grades, family income, and background to make up the 320 students accepted for enrollment.
He said CCD will accept students who are “poorest of the poor.” They would need to present the Income Tax Return of both parents or a Certificate of Low Income from the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO).
They may also submit a Certificate of Belonging to the Indigenous Peoples Group issued by the Indigenous People Member Representative (IPM) if applicable.
At the same time, CCD will also base the admission on the ranking of grades but Cagape said there is no required average grade in order to apply and get accepted.
“Ang income nila is one of our criteria. Katong pobre gyod na wala’y access to continue their studies sa college education. But i-consier pud nato ilang grade average... Wala man ta parehas sa uban eskwelahan (for example) na dapat 85 ang grado na i-accept. Saatoa, open sa tanan but we have to consider the ranking system (One of our criteria is the income of their parents, those students who do not have access to continue their college education but we also have to consider their grade average. It will not be like other schools that require, for example, an 85 grade average to get accepted. We are open to everyone but we have to consider the ranking system),” Cagape said during an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.
The school will be housed in a rented building, utilizing ten classrooms. The space is rented for ten years and is located at Kilometer 10, Catalunan Pequeño but according to Cagape, they have already identified CCD’s permanent site, which is a 4.6-hectare property in Barangay Bago Oshiro.
“Mag increase atong number of enrollment kay daghan naman ta classrooms (The number of enrollees will increase since we would have more classrooms), and including teachers (will increase too),” he said.
For now, there are only three four-year programs offered at CCD namely Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education (Major in Computer Programming, and Major in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology), Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
Graduates of Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education and Bachelor of Early Childhood Education will take a board exam to earn their professional licenses.
