HUNDREDS of Sagaynons availed of basic city government services in the relaunching of “Oplan Paglilingkod” in Sagay’s farthest barangay, Colonia Divina yesterday, July 4.

After three years, the annual “Oplan Paglilingkod” is back to tour all 25 barangays of Sagay to give basic services from the city government and various national government agencies to Sagaynons.

This is one of the oldest programs of the city government which was started in 1997 by the late mayor and governor Joseph Marañon but was stopped in 2020 during the pandemic.

Traditionally, the Oplan begins at the farthest barangay of Sagay which is Colonia Divina.

Among the services offered in Oplan Paglilingkod are farmers’ consultation on crops, fisherman consultation on fishing concerns, seeds and seedling distribution, veterinary clinic and consultative dialogue, animal immunization and deworming, livestock registration, swine fattening and dispersal;

Dental and surgical services like free circumcision to young males, routine medical examination, dialogue on cleanliness and sanitation, mass wedding, registration, and national ID registration, and barangay assembly and consultation with barangay officials.

Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva also said that this is an effort to bring government services nearer to all Sagaynons is a testament of the government's commitment to good governance and hopes for Sagaynons' cooperation.

Apart from Javelosa and Cueva, the event was also attended by Councilors Arthur Christopher Marañon, Roldan Gamao, Rodnel Delos Reyes, Perfecto Marañon, Miller Serondo, office heads Julie Delima, Engr Vivencio Flores, Dr. Modesto Joseph Canonero, III, Valerie Javelosa, Marcel Irisari and uniformed personnel from Sagay City Police Station, Special Action Force, and 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.

Colonia Divina Punong Barangay Johnny Buhayan also thanked the city government for always implementing the program first in their barangay.

Buhayan said that through this program, residents of Colonia Divina can save their money and time in going to the city proper, adding that through this they felt the genuine service of the city government.

The program will run for almost two months in 32 locations and will end at Hacienda San Agustin in Brgy. Paraiso. (PR)
