A MAN was arrested while some P350,000 worth of contraband were seized in an anti-smuggling operation in an east coast village in Zamboanga City the police reported Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
Arrested was Jani Sabuddin, 39, a resident of Kasanyangan village, according to Police Major Albin Cabayacruz, Zamboanga City Police Station 5 chief.
Cabayacruz said Sabuddin was arrested around 11 p.m. Monday, July 10, along Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat Highway at Sitio Lumiyap in Divisoria village.
Cabayacruz said they were conducting checkpoint when they flagged down a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) driven by Sabuddin, which was found to be loaded with 10 master cases of cigarettes worth P350,000 upon inspection.
He said Sabuddin was arrested and the cargo confiscated after the latter failed to present documents to show proof the transport of the cigarettes is legal.
He said Sabuddin, SUV and smuggled cigarettes were placed under the custody of ZCPS5 for documentation and will be turned over to Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.(SunStar Zamboanga)
