PHILIPPINE Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) chairman and chief executive officer Alejandro Tengco said he is not affected by criticisms over their new logo, as he expressed belief that they “made a good decision.”

In an ambush interview on Monday, July 17, 2023, in Clark, Pampanga, Tengco said they will stand by the new logo, which was unveiled during their 40th anniversary on July 11.

The event was attended by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“I will be honest with you. I am not affected at all. We made a good decision and ‘yung decision na iyon ay paninindigan naming (we will stand by our decision),” he said.

“That is the management prerogative, kaya palagay ko naman merong management prerogative kami at iyon po ay pinakikiusap naming na igalang naman (we have a management prerogative and the people should respect it) because we also have done so many things that have not been highlighted,” he added.

Tengco also defended the cost of the rebranding campaign that amounted to P3 million, saying it does not cover the logo alone.

“There are so many other deliverables granted from the designer tulad (ng) like manuals,” Tengco said.

“Mali yung pag-iisip na yung P3 milyon para sa logo lang. (Pero) merong mga aral na ginawa at maraming gamit din ang kailangan pang asikasuhin ‘yung designer,” he added.

(It is wrong to think that the P3 million is just for the logo. (But) there are lessons that have been learned and many things that the designer still needs to take care of.)

Tengco said the logo will be used in around 45 Pagcor properties across the country.

Following criticisms, the three-member Makabayan bloc at the House of Representatives filed a resolution seeking the conduct of a probe into possible anomalies surrounding the procurement of a new logo of Pagcor.

The P3.035 million contract, which covers the creation of a new logo for the state-run agency, was awarded to Printplus Graphic Services, which registered with the government’s online procurement system PhilGEPS just in June 2023.

“The questionable procurement of Pagcor’s new logo raises concerns about possible corruption and misuse of public funds. We must hold those responsible accountable,” the resolution read.

Senator Grace Poe also raised an eyebrow on the amount used for the project, saying it could have been used for more important projects. (SunStar Philippines)
