A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) president was shot dead in front of their house at 7:50 p.m. on July 18, 2023.

The victim, Jorlan “Bon” Sacay, who was currently the SK Municipal Federation President of the Municipality of Maco was shot several times by two unknown assailants at Purok La Suerte, in Brgy. Binuangan, Maco, Davao de Oro.

In a spot report by the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao), the victim was rushed to the Davao Regional Medical Medical Center in Apokon, Tagum City but was pronounced dead around 8 p.m. of the same day.

In the initial investigation of PRO-Davao, a witness, who refused to be identified, came forward and narrated that the victim had just returned from his meeting at the Maco Municipal Hall, which was presided over by Municipal Mayor Voltaire Rimando, with other Municipal councilors. The victim, according to the witness, was on his way to another meeting with the SK chairpersons. However, upon disembarking from his orange Ford Ranger in front of his house, two men riding on a TMX/SKYG motorcycle approached him. The back rider walked towards him without saying anything and shot him several times in different areas of his body.

The suspects immediately fled from the crime scene onboard the motorcycle.

Meanwhile, authorities were able to recover six fired cartridges of caliber .45 pistol and one fired bullet of the same pistol as they conducted a hot-pursuit operation to capture the suspects.

Sacay’s remains were taken to Rubio Funeral Homes. The Maco police are continuing their investigation.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post from the College of Law of St. Thomas strongly condemns the killing of one of their students.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms the heinous and senseless killing of our schoolmate, Jorlan "Bon" Sacay. It is with deep sorrow and indignation that we address this tragic incident that has robbed our community of a bright and promising individual," the FB post stated.

"Bon is a promising law student, known for his dedication, intellect, and love for service. His presence enriched our academic environment, and his loss is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. This abhorrent act of violence undermines the values we hold dear as a community, values that promote empathy, justice, and the pursuit of knowledge,” it added. (RGP)
