SOME parts of the country will continue to experience bad weather as another weather system threatens the Philippines, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Thursday, July 27, 2023.

While Typhoon Egay (Doksuri) had just left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the weather bureau said a tropical depression was monitored at 1,585 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 70 kph.

Pagasa Assistant Weather Services Chief Chris Perez said the weather system has no direct effect on the country for now.

The tropical depression, which is forecast to intensify into a typhoon with a peak intensity of 155 (kph), will be named Falcon once it enters the PAR, the sixth tropical cyclone to hit the country this year.

It is expected to enter PAR between Saturday evening, July 29, and Sunday morning, July 30.

Perez said it is, however, not expected to hit the landmass.

It is forecast to affect the east of southeastern Luzon, east of Central Luzon and extreme Northern Luzon before heading outside the PAR by Tuesday, August 1.

Similar to Egay, Falcon may enhance the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, which may again bring heavy downpour in affected areas.

As of Thursday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said five individuals were reported dead due to Egay with 5,950 families or 19,826 individuals out of the 89,639 affected families or 328,356 persons displaced.

Egay caused massive flooding in the affected areas particularly in Northern Luzon. (SunStar Philippines)
