A 10-WHEELER truck falls off a cliff in Barangay Libjo in the northern town of Tabogon, Cebu past midnight Sunday, July 30, 2023, killing its driver and the truck boy.

Corporal Michael Anciano of the Tabogo Police Station told Superbalita Cebu that Libjo Barangay Captain Nathaniel Cortes called the station around 12:50 p.m. to report the incident.

The truck was on its way to Bogo City carrying assorted dry goods.

Anciano identified the victims as Casimero Arrisgado of Barangay Patao, Bantayan, and Ronald Pasuquin of Barangay Talisay, Santa Fe. The two towns are in Bantayan Island.

The truck is owned by Regina Menchavez of Bantayan town.

According to initial investigation, Arrisgado lost control while trying to maneuver a steep bend.

The truck fell off the 10-meter cliff and landed on the house and store of Editha Nacor.

No one in the Nacor family was hurt.

"The driver and the truck boy were crushed in the fall. Rescuers weren’t able to recover their bodies until 11:30 a.m.,” Anciano said in Cebuano.

The police corporal said heavy equipment was deployed to recover the victims.

He did not discount the possibility that the truck’s brakes malfunctioned. It was also possible, he said, that Arrisgado fell asleep at the wheel.

Anciano said the area is accident-prone. (GPL)
