THE four minors who were orphaned after the death of their mother and father in an incident inside a laundry shop on Sunday, July 30 will be subjected to "intervention" and other "counseling".

According to the Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD), the incident will have a huge psychological impact on the children.

It can be recalled that on July 30, a couple was found lifeless inside a laundry shop. Based on the closed-circuit television camera footage, the woman was seen to be stabbed by her live-in partner while the suspect committed suicide after he killed his partner.

Police believed the incident was a “crime of passion”.

In an interview with dxDC RMN Davao, WCPD Chief Police Major Gillian Rose Birondo said the sensitive case had a serious effect on the children, which requires immediate action.

“Naa gyo'y abuse sa sulod sa ilahang panimalay kay kung makita nga abusive ang inyong pamilya imong mama ug papa, naa kini psychological effect sa mga bata (There was an abuse inside their household, because if you see in your family that if your mother and father are abusive, there will be psychological effect on the children)," Birondo said.

Birondo said that children can become violent and could imitate what had happened. This is why they should be subjected to an intervention to protect their mental health.

Birondo assured that the WCPD, together with the City Social Welfare and Development Office will monitor and foster the children's welfare, especially in their psychological and spiritual aspects.

The grandparents of the minors, whose ages range from 14, 12, 10, and 6, assured that they will take care of the children.

The minors will be brought into their custody in their residence in Los Amigos, Tugbok District.

The 14-year-old and eldest of the couple has huge anger toward his father, who was reportedly responsible for their mother's death.

In a separate interview with RMN, the eldest vowed to her mother to take care of his younger siblings.

He also revealed that he had experienced physical abuse by his father.

"Ginadapatan [ko sa ako papa] usahay. Ginasumbag ko niya (My father would hit me sometimes, he would beat me)," he said, adding that his siblings also experienced maltreatment when his father was still alive. (JPC with reports from dxDC RMN)
