‘Halad kay Kang-laon’ festival opens

The fifth Halad kay Kang-laon Festival opened yesterday with a parade and bountiful agro trade fair at Park Marina in San Carlos City.

The three-day festival showcases the products and produce of local government units within the Mount Kanlaon Natural Park (MKNP)--Bago City, La Carlota City, La Castellana, Murcia and San Carlos City in Negros Occidental, and Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.

Hosted by San Carlos, in collaboration with the MKNP Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) and the Provincial Environment and Natural Offices (PENRO) of Negros Occ. and Negros Or., the festival highlights the economic and environmental importance of Mount Kanlaon to the towns and cities.

Along with the trade fair, the entries to the Environmental Photo Contest was also opened followed by an environmental symposium at the People’s Park, and PAMB and Mayors’ Night at the marina.

Tonight, the search for Suta kag Diwata sang Kanlaon with take center stage at the city auditorium, preluded by the canvas and body painting competitions in the morning.

The last day of the festival will start with the “Bike and Plant” and “Run, Pick, Plant” at the Baranagay Forest in Brgy. Codcod, and a familiarization tour of the MKNP area at Magon-on Falls.

A street dance and festival presentation of the six participating LGUs will bring color in the afternoon which will be capped off by the awarding ceremony. KBC
